Duo develops portal to track airport buses

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has failed to deliver on its promise of launching the Nimmbus app in December last year, which would have allowed users to track buses in real-time. In response, two public transport enthusiasts, architect Pravar Chaudhary and techie Chaitanya Deep, have created a web portal for tracking Vayu Vajra (airport) services.

The portal, called kia.bengawalk.com, was recently launched but does not currently offer real-time tracking of buses. Chaudhary explained that they gathered static data and timetable information from the BMTC website and provided it in a user-friendly manner. Passengers traveling to and from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) can visit the portal and check the timings of Vayu Vajra services easily.

Chaudhary also mentioned that while some routes may not be accurate, they are actively updating the information based on feedback from users. He added that they would be able to provide real-time tracking once BMTC implements an open-data policy.

Deep, who has launched a tech startup, pointed out that the BMTC website presented Vayu Vajra timings in a tabular format, which many passengers found difficult to use. Their interface aims to make the information more accessible. They are also willing to collaborate with BMTC to establish an open-data policy. Last year, a Telegram group called Friends of BMTC was created by regular bus users, which now has over 1,500 members.
